How to catch Cosmic Signature/Mission runners

Catching Cosmic Signature/Mission runners can be hard if not impossible. This tactic has given me some kills in the past though.

If I jump into system and notice that some players are running a Cosmic Signature. I then probe it, at this point they have probably already warped out and got safe. I finish probing it, bookmark it and then jump out of the system. I wait about 5-10 minutes and then jump in and warp straight to the signature I probed, if I’m lucky I will catch them as they have just arrived back in it. Be aware of this tactic, if somebody has been probing your signature don’t go back to it straight away after they leave. Wait at least 15 minutes.

Which corporation?

Are you not sure which corporation to join as a new player?

Joining a corporation or corp when you start the game is very important. Corporations can help you learn about the game and gives you people to play with. But you must find a good corporation, a bad corporation is as good as no corporation.

A good corporation usually has the following:

  • Over fifty members.
  • An experienced CEO.
  • A killboard with a low amount of losses.
  • Corporation over a year old.

The corporation Eve University is a player run corporation which helps new players. It is a great opportunity to try many different aspects of the game but their rules in my opinion are slightly strict.

Security status and security rating

Systems have a security rating or security status which is not to be confused with a player’s security status. The rules for a player’s security status are outline below:

  • Players with worse than -1.9 may not enter 1.0 systems
  • Players with worse than -2.4 may not enter 0.9 systems
  • Players with worse than -2.9 may not enter 0.8 systems
  • Players with worse than -3.4 may not enter 0.7 systems
  • Players with worse than -3.9 may not enter 0.6 systems
  • Players with worse than -4.5 may not enter 0.5 systems
  • Players with worse than -4.9 become outlaws and can be attacked in any space with no concord intervention.

Rules for systems:

High Security Space (hisec) is space with a security rating between 0.5 and 1.0. Breaking the law in hisec will ‘flag’ you for 15 minutes. A ‘flagged’ player in hisec is instantly killed by CONCORD.

Low Security Space (lowsec) is space with a security rating between 0.1 and 0.4. Breaking the law in lowsec will ‘flag’ you for 15 minutes. Lowsec doesn’t have CONCORD ships so you won’t be instantly killed but you will be shot by sentry guns and if you jump in to hisec you will be killed by CONCORD. Warp disruptor bubbles cannot be used in lowsec.

0.0 Space. (0.0) This space is lawless and enables the use of warp disruptor bubbles and has no sentry guns on gates.

What race Eve Online

Whatever race you choose in Eve Online you can train other races ships so you are never stuck to one race. The races are actually reasonably balanced. The only exception to this is Caldari who are the best pve race but the worst pvp race.

The most important thing when creating a new character to think about is your attributes as these affect your training time: Perception is generally regarded as the most important attribute as it directly relates to your ability to train skills to fly different types of ships. Intelligence is in my opinion the second most important attribute. Memory and Willpower are reasonably important and Charisma is pretty useless.

If your looking to do a lot of pvp I would advise not starting the name of your character with either A,B or C. The reason for this is that in larger fights targets are usually sorted alphabetically and then killed from A down.

To plan character development an excellent tool is EVEMon

How to fit ships in Eve

Most players in Eve don’t know how to fit their ships, learning how to fit yours will give you an advantage over most players. The best way to learn how to fit your ships is follow what other good players are doing. You can do this by looking at killboards of good players. A killboard keeps track of kills and losses with many alliances and corporations have their own killboards. Google to find their killboards and check their losses to find good fits. Pandemic Legion’s killboard is a decent start for fits.

A great tool for fitting ships is Eve Fitting Tool or EFT. It can be downloaded here. EFT allows you to see what a ship can do with your skills and with what you can fit.

Best race in Eve?

So what is the best race? Is there a best race?

For PvE in my opinion there is easily a best race: Caldari. The Tengu, Drake, Raven and Golem are all excellent PvE ships due to the easy ability to change damage types.

What about the best PvP race? That is not so clear cut. For each ship class (which matter) I will list the best ships in my opinion for that class. I will not include faction ships.

Frigates: Rifter

Interceptors: Taranis, Stiletto,

Electronic Attack Ships: None

Assualt Ships: Ishkur, Wolf, Jaguar

Stealth Bombers: All

Destroyers: Thrasher

Interdictors: Sabre

Cruisers: Thorax, Rupture

Recon Ships: Curse, Rapier

Heavy Assualt Ships: Zealot, Ishtar, Vagabond, Muninn

Strategic Cruisers: All

Heavy Interdictors: All

Battlecruisers: Harbinger, Drake, Myrmidon, Hurricane

Command Ships: Absoultion, Damnation, Vulture, Astarte, Claymore, Sleipnir

Battleships: Armageddon, Apocalypse, Abaddon, Scorpion, Dominix, Megathron, Hyperion, Typhoon, Tempest, Maelstrom.

Black Ops: Redeemer

Marauders: None

Carriers: Archon, Aeon, Thanatos, Nyx

Dreadnoughts: Revelation, Moros

Titans: All

Logistics: Guardian, Basilisk, Scimitar

Totals:

Amarr: 11

Caldari: 3

Gallente: 10

Minmatar: 17

So therefore Minmatar are the best race? This is true for non capital ships. For capital ships I would reccomend Amarr. If you are just starting the game and want to PvP I would definitely recommend Minmatar. It is key to remember though that when starting a character you want to focus on the primarily character’s attributes as you can always train any race.

What ships to have in a gang

A good gang will generally have:

  • Tackle: Small fast ships to catch people. This includes interdictors in 0.0.
  • DPS: To provide damage.
  • Logistics: To repair people.

In a gang you don’t want to be fitting self repair modules such as shield boosters or armour repairs. Logistics should be repairing people with remote repairs. DPS ships want to be fit for high resistances, so remote repairing is effective with a decent amount of EHP so reps can be applied before the ship dies. DPS ships should have multiple damage modifiers e.g. Heat sinks. Tackling ships need to be fit for speed. I would not bother with EW ships as they die too quickly in Eve at the moment.

Examples:

  • Tackle: Interceptors (1-2), interdictors (3-4) and a Broadsword/Onyx (1-2).
  • DPS: Drakes
  • Logistics: Basilisks and Scimitars
  • Other: Vulture for gang bonuses.

or

  • Tackle: Interceptors (1-2), interdictors (3-4) and a Devotor/Phobos (1-2).
  • DPS: Abaddons
  • Logistics: Guardians
  • Other: Damnation for gang bonuses.

Who are Raiden.?

So who are RaidenDOT? I only noticed them as they managed to lose some supercapitals, it seems they are a breakoff from IT and INIT. They only have been formed a few days and have already whelped 2 Titans and 2 Supers.

Personally I think they should just disband, they have failed before they have even begun. Good work.
