How to make a ship unprobeable

Unprobeable ships can be quite useful. The most useful reasons in my opinion are:

  • Unprobeable ship to run missions.
  • Unprobeable snipers.
  • Unprobeable ships with Ganglinks.

So how do you make a ship unprobeable? It’s decided by the equation:

1.08 > Signature Radius/Sensor Strength

So if you divide your Signature Radius by your Sensor Strength it has to be less than 1.08. Why this magical number of 1.08? A prober with max skills and all the best probing gear (faction probes, implants etc.) can probe a target that small.

T3s are probably the easiest ships to do this with. A tengu can run missions with this fit without being probed:

[Unprobeable Tengu]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Power Diagnostic System II

Large Shield Booster II
Ballistic Deflection Field II
Heat Dissipation Field II
Conjunctive Gravimetric ECCM Scanning Array I
Conjunctive Gravimetric ECCM Scanning Array I
Conjunctive Gravimetric ECCM Scanning Array I

Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Heavy Missile

Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

Tengu Defensive – Amplification Node
Tengu Electronics – Dissolution Sequencer
Tengu Engineering – Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
Tengu Offensive – Accelerated Ejection Bay
Tengu Propulsion – Intercalated Nanofibers

Signature Radius: 150m

Sensor Strength: 195

150/195 = 0.77 (2 decimal places)

So clearly this is unprobeable.

A word of warning: Your drones can be probed, even if your ship is unprobeable but you are using drones, they can be probed. Check in EFT first with your skills before thinking your ship is unprobeable.

Sansha Supercarrier Revenant update

More information has been released on the sansha supercarrier in this thread.

The stats of the ship look interesting. I think the model looks quite cool too, others have accused of it looking like shit. Literally.

It seems that low-sec incursions will have a chance of dropping a sansha supercarrier BPC. Low-sec incursions will be new in the Incursion expansion which is going to be released over November, December and January. Incursions are a new type of dungeon which seem similar to current complexes but the NPCs will have better A.I. (similar to sleepers) which will make them harder. It looks like they won’t be soloable and more of a group thing.

That was easy.

Escaping the station was in fact very easy and very dull. I used my alts to scout and just used empty systems as jump points. Luckily nobody came in local when my carrier was still at the cyno. No exciting explosions but at least I still have all my assets.

So I haven’t been posting much…

Or playing Eve much. Just sometimes Eve gets a bit repetitve but yesterday I logged on. Firstly, the good news is that I haven’t been kicked out of my corporation. The bad news though is that my carrier and about 500 million in assets are now in a neutral station in 0.0 5 carrier jumps from lowsec with no friendly poses I can use. Now I have two options, either try and make it by lighting the cynos in empty systems and hoping I don’t get caught or try and join the alliance who owns the area with my carrier character. Where would the fun in that be though? I will post in a few days/weeks (depending on when I can actually escape the station) with details of my daring escape and most likely, my miserable failure.

Change your portrait

Ever wanted to change your portrait? Well soon it seems you will be able to with CCP releasing a new character creator meaning you have to remake your character’s portrait. To be honest I like my portrait on my main character. He looks old and a bit weird like he has done slightly too much Drop or Crash. On the other hand I hate the look of my alts. One is Achura. While not being racist, he seems to look just like every other Achura and a bit boring. My other alt is gallente and he just looks gay with his pink hair (I bought him).

Updating portraits seems to be the first steps of development towards Incarna and being able to completely customise your character’s looks.

Eve Online GTC/PLEXs: How many is too many?

Somebody I know in Eve let’s call him A, wanted a titan. Sadly though he completely lacked the isk to buy one so decided to buy it via Game Time Cards (GTCs). He bought over 100 GTCs, over $3500 (£2,200) worth. He then sold these GTCs in game as PLEXs and used this isk to buy a titan and fit it. Now I think this is a bit much to spend on internet spaceships but each to their own. I also have no problems with GTCs as a way to convert real money to isk as all you are really trading with is time. It takes time to make isk and it takes time to make real money.

I wouldn’t do it but I undertstand why he did. Some may laugh and say he spent over $3500 on pixels? But then most people round the world work their whole lives for pieces of paper. It’s really what you get out of the pixels or paper. I have actually heard of lots of people buying Super Capitals by buying GTCs and it is actually quite common.

Would you do it? Should people be allowed to buy GTCs?

If you’re interested in how he did it or are interested in buying some PLEX/GTCs I have a guide here.

Tech 3 subsystems: Covert Reconfiguration and Interdiction Nullifier

The Covert Reconfiguration and Interdiction Nullifier subsystems (subs) on Strategic Cruisers I swear were put in game just to piss players off. Trying to catch one of these usually goes something like this on voice comms:

Scout: Incoming Tengu.
FC: Ok guys hold on this gate, spread out and wait it for to jump in, when he decloaks put bubble up and decloak.
Random dude: Gate flash, here he is.
FC: There he is! Decloak! Decloak! Decloak! Decloak!
FC: He warped ffs.

Usually followed by “lol noobs” in local by the T3 pilot.

I’m pretty sure that the only use of T3s with these two subs is to make people angry and maybe transport expensive stuff. If you used one in a gang you would be retarded as T3s with these subs does about 200dps maybe a bit more if you fit it with a shitty tank and/or shitty ehp. So not only does it piss players off as nobody can kill them, it also pisses players off who fly them as they can’t kill anything in them.

I have asked players why they use these subs and am usually told that it’s for ganking ratters. Firstly, ganking ratters is very fucking difficult in 0.0 as they just warp to a safespot/pos/station when you enter local, I have never seen anybody consistently make good kills off 0.0 ratters unless you have hacks. Secondly, if you tried to gank a ratter in a T3 you would probably be there for about 30 minutes failing to break his tank until his friends arrvied with your terrible dps. For solo just use a pilgrim.

More success might be had in wormholes, a proteus is decent scout/tackler in gangs and could probably catch ratters in wormholes but still an Arazu is better.

Some may disagree with this and say those subs are useful and make comments like “ACTUALLY MY TENGU DOES 210 DPS” but the truth is I cannot see a good role where  a Covert Reconfiguration/Interdiction Nullifier fit T3 out peforms other T2 ships especially considering the price tag.

I’m not saying T3s are bad generally, they aren’t, rather just with those subs.

TLDR: Don’t fit Covert Reconfiguration/Interdiction Nullifier subs on a T3 unless you are retarded.

Sansha mothership anybody?

CCP has announced and released some information on the 14th expansion for Eve: Incursion.

Further improvements include updating the character creator with CCP’s Carbon character technology for fresh pilot portraits, a Sansha Mothership, Fighterbomber, the Noctis salvaging vessel, improvements to NPCs and their AI, new coveted loot and rewards, storyline events, amazing new visuals and a more dynamic and simplified system for Planetary Interaction.

The improved NPC AI looks interesting and might make NPCing less dull and harder to be macroed. To be honest I’d prefer some T3 frigates or battlecruisers (I love T3 strategic cruisers at the moment) and possibly some newer content for everybody over a new mothership (supercarrier). As the expansion seems to be focused on Sansha maybe some more smaller faction Sansha ships.

I’m also curious how you would go about obtaining a Sansha mothership. I have standings to run Sansha missions on an alt and I can imagine Stain (Sansha home region where you can run Sansha missions) becoming very popular very quickly if it could somehow be obtained through the Sansha LP store.

There’s also some information on Spacebook (EVE gate) changes which nobody cares about.

Full information here.

Cry Havoc. shutting down

Cry Havoc is shutting down. Usually I don’t care about alliances folding and all the drama associated with it, as usually the alliances are terrible but Cry Havoc in my opinion is/was one of the best alliances in Eve. Their killboard stats speak for themselves: 33 Supercarrier kills with no losses, 5 Titan kills with 1 Titan loss and an overall efficiency of 83%. Cry Havoc were always very good at hotdropping other capitals and not losing capitals in the process. I remember living in lowsec near where they lived and the constant worry when fielding capitals was the CH hotdrop.

Sad to see a good alliance go.

Apologies for the inconvenience…

The EVE Dev Team.

There has always been lag in Eve Online but in the past has definitely been better than it is now, the other week I was in a 50 vs 50 fight and my guns really didn’t want to cycle but at least my ECM (ECM Zealot ftw) did cycle ok so at least I could whore mails and getting on killmails is the most important part of eve pvp.

Some wierd things have happened in me in Eve before due to lag. When I was in IT our fleet got bombed and my Megathron died: I got the lossmail and the insurance but I was just sat in it with 0% structure. I managed to eject and then the node crashed, when the node came back up my Mega was just sat there so I hopped in and took it to station to repair it. Free insurance ISK, I’m not complaining. This type of thing has happened on a much larger scale before, a while back in 6NJ8-V the Northern Coalition (NC) lost 6 titans and 3 Supercarriers to the Russian Ebay force that is White Noise. Many of these titans died but also managed to jump out so there was a wreck and lossmail but also the NC kept their ships. Weird stuff happens in lag.

At least CCP seems to be recently caring about lag or at least giving the impression they care with the amount of Dev Blogs on lag though to be honest in the fights I have had recently I haven’t noticed much difference, 50 vs 50 fights are quite small in the large scale of Eve and they shouldn’t lag. Fuck the 500 vs 500 they will probably always lag and reasonably so as that is quite a few people. Fuck the blobs, I just want my lagless small gang back. Feel free to bitch about lag in comments if you feel the need to.
