So fucking dull…

I’m not usually a suicidal person and I very rarely commit suicide but carebearing in Eve always makes me feel suicidal. For this reason I had tend not to do it but the other day my sec status was getting a bit low and for the last few days everybody I saw didn’t seem to want to shoot me and rather decided they would dock.

I decided to take my Ishtar, an alt in a Covert Ops and a Guardian in to 0.0 to do some complexes (having three accounts is pretty helpful). I probed out a Serpentis Logistical Outpost and finished it and it escalated, good news right? The escalation was even only a few jumps away and even though it was close to a hostile station the system was pretty empty. The problem with this escalation was that it seemed to be never ending. I was there for about 2 hours with my ishtar pew pewing away at these rats and the truth is I wanted to go to bed. With moral support from my Corp mates I continued on. Finally the overseer spawned and the loot was decent: a vigilant bpc and overseer effects, along with bounties this was about 400mil loot which isn’t bad but I still can’t help but feel I have been robbed of my time. You might be thinking: “Well bring some friends for dps you mug…” The problem is that ‘friends’ for extra dps will probably only bring one account so even though you have probed the plex and are tanking it they want 50:50 cut just for a bit of dps which just isn’t worth it. Pikey cunts.

Some people in Eve seem to love pve, some carebears or bears (those who don’t pvp but would rather rat/mine/run missions/be bored) manage to run missions or rat for months on end. So what it is that I am missing in pve and what is it that interests Eve’s pvers? It can’t be the gripping dialogues with the agents and it can’t be that sense that you are going into the unknown as the chances are you have run that mission 200 times before.

I think most people that constantly bear in Eve do it to make large amounts of isk but don’t really find bearing that fun which just turns Eve into a job, a job for space dollars. I understand a bit of bearing to pay the bills or fuel pvp but otherwise I just don’t understand people who do it. It’s so fucking dull.

Do you just constantly rat or run missions, feel free to tell me I’ve got it completely wrong. To be honest I am slightly jealous, if I could bear 24/7 I would be drowning in isk.

Eve pvp videos: My top five

Everybody loves eve pvp videos so here are my list of the top five in no particular order. All of them are worth a download.

Mimir solo pvp by Garmon

The main, perhaps the only, reason I am picking this video is that it is the most expensive ship I have seen used in solo eve pvp ever. The Mimir was the first place prize from Alliance Tournament VII, they have sold in the region of 15-20 billion. The video shows him mainly burning off and killing tacklers with his nano fit, the combination of snakes and a gang link Loki makes him pretty fast. This is one of the only pvp videos I have seen involving a unique ship.

Download

Wave of Mutilation 2 by Farjung

This is old. This was one of the first eve pvp videos I ever saw when I started playing the game. It involves Farjung flying a nicely fitted Vindicator, mainly solo. Even though it is old this video in my opinion is still great to watch. It demonstrates the power of the old ECM. In those days Domis with Nosferatu and Torpedo Ravens were king.

Download

Garmonation Series by Garmon

This series involves many videos and nearly all of them are very good. Garmonation 8 has been released recently. All his videos contain a mix of ships from t1 frigates through to pimped Vindicators: something for all the family. Probably the best eve pvp movies series ever. I’m too lazy to find links to every single one, you can use Eve search and google to find them, they have all been posted on the Eve forums.

Adapt or Die by Flinx Evenstar

This video is the only gang video I have listed here and it is rather good. It’s Pandemic Legion mainly in afterburning armour hacs. The main reason I usually don’t find gang videos that good is you don’t really know what is going on and what each side are fielding but in this video teamspeak recordings and information on screen really let you know what’s going on.

Download

Carebear Sorrows by Vasili vanHolst

This video is slightly different, it is in high security space. It’s really just a combination of very expensive ganks and ransoms (which are very quickly and awesomely broken). If you watched you might be thinking how the fuck is he shooting people in hi-sec? This is has now been changed but it used to be the case that if you were in a gang with a wartarget then you could be shot by the other side. For example if corporation ‘Jimmy’s Miners’ has been wardecced by ‘Evil Griefers’ then if you were in a gang with a member of ‘Jimmy’s Miners’ you could be attacked by ‘Evil Griefers’. Vasili used this trick using an alt corp so anybody he invited into his gang he could shoot. This was first done by Lofty29 and was nicknamed the ‘Lofty’ trick.

Download

Some Twinkey rage

I know this is the 6th link but it’s not really a pvp video but rather just Super Twinkey69 raging. Most people have probably seen it but if you haven’t:

Best Macro Corporation Award

Most people know what macros are, they are basically programs that play the game for you and are usually used for ratting and mining.

Why I don’t give a fuck about RMT.

Lots of people think that all macros are always connected with RMT or Real Money Trading: selling isk on ebay or other websites for real money. I don’t care about RMT as CCP already has a legal way to do it, explained here: Buy Legal Eve Isk. Another reason I don’t care about RMT is that most people who buy isk end up losing it stupidly within a few days. Loads of macros though aren’t connected with RMT but are just normal players that want extra isk to buy expensive toys.

So who’s winning the award?

BURN EDEN. Many people have heard of them and they even have a memorial outside of Jita IV-4. BURN EDEN or BE love bragging about their efficiency, how many spaceships they have killed but more importantly how they get rich through pvping.

The reason I am giving this award to them though is because they are very good at macro ratting with alt corps (corporations full of alts). One of thier main alt corporations with macros is: Templars of Space who is currently in AAA Citizens as BE joined Against all Authorities (AAA) though I hear they are leaving soon. Templars of Space also has pvp alts in it. They have most of thier macros in the SB3-IH constellation in Stain but have I seen them in other systems too.

How do I know they’re macroing?

  • They spoke about it on TeamSpeak when I occasionally pvped with them in Stain.
  • Their macros never speak in local (yet BE love smacking in local).
  • They automatically warp to a safe spot and cloak when anybody enters local that isn’t friendly.
  • They all have autoreject on.
  • They play for long hours.

How much isk do they make from their macros?

A ratting macro running for about 12 hours a day will make about 250mil. BE though do not just have one macro they have about 10 to 15 running at any one time. This means they are making roughly 2.5 billion isk every day. That is 17.5 isk billion a week. This explains how they are able to afford faction battleships and SuperCarriers.

Why don’t you petition them?

Well I have but CCP don’t seem to care, this general “we don’t care attitude” is universal to macros across Eve as they give CCP money just as any other account. Lots of big alliances do it including AAA, SOLAR FLEET/SOLAR WING (as I said in my other post Russians love macroing and to be honest it’s not just a stereotype). Many other alliances turn a blind eye to it. I generally don’t care that much about macros but what annoys me is BE love bragging about their amazing stats, efficiency and how they are self sustainable through pvp. All their stats are mainly due to the expensive ships they used which are funded by their macros. BE love claiming that their stats is due to their “elite pvp skills” which is just bullshit.

Macros, Falcons, blobbing and Vodka…

From the title you might of worked out that this post is going to be about Russians in Eve, more accurately what people associate with Russians in Eve. Theres four stereotypes that are usually associated with Russians in Eve (according to me and my space friends):

  1. They love using macros.
  2. They love Falcons and Falcon alts.
  3. They always blob.
  4. They constantly drink Vodka, though to be fair this is associated with Russians in general.

So how true are they?

1. They love using macros.

A scientific study would probably fly through different sections of space counting macros and who the space belongs to but I would rather rely on rumours and hearsay which are definitely more reliable than facts, as everybody knows you can prove anything with facts. I have a real life friend who is in AAA and according to him Russian Thunder Squad, Rage and Terror (the two main Russian corps in AAA) both ‘macro like motherfuckers’ and love macro hulks.

True

2. They love Falcons and Falcon alts.

Due to some detailed, accurate scientific research (I even impressed myself) I have produced these statistics:

Non-Russian Alliances and Falcon position in ships and weapons on Eve Kill Killboard:

  • Tau Ceti Federation: Not even on there
  • Atlas Alliance: 17
  • RAZOR Alliance: 12

Russian Alliances and Falcon position in ships and weapons on Eve Kill Killboard:

  • Shadow of xXDEATHXx: 4
  • Legion of xXDEATHXx: 7
  • SOLAR FLEET: 9

We can conclude from this Russians love thier Falcons as they use them more. When I fight Russians in lowsec to be fair I continuely find myself saying “Kill the fucking falcon I’m jammed again.” Even though on nearly all my ships I fit an ECCM.

True

3. They always blob.

Everybody accuses everybody else of blobbing because the truth is nobody likes to lose fights so you either try to get the upper hand via better ships or more commonly via numbers. For the Russians it’s definitely true though I mean they even blobbed the Germans in WW2 with more troops.

True

4. They constantly drink Vodka

This isn’t quite accurate, they sometimes drink cogniac. Chatlog proof:

Russian > no fair fight]
Corp mate > you attacked him while i was sat there
Corp mate > what did oytu expect
Russian > i was helpin you
Me > u attacked me
Russian > fuckin loosers do yopu allways fight like this
Corp mate > if you want a 1vs1 ask
Corp mate > dontjust expect it
Russian > fuck…. been drunk… pickd a wrong targt
Corp mate > too much vodka ))))
Russian > cogniac
Russian > ))))

Probably true

No I’m not racist against Russians (or anybody for that matter), to be honest I find all this racist stuff is political correctness gone mad. I mean you can’t even write racial abuse in shit on somebody’s car these days.

The country of internet spaceships

Most of my holidays involve sandy beaches and cocktails with little straw hats but I wanted to go somewhere a bit different so I decided on Iceland, I mean they make a decent spaceship game so maybe their country is decent too.

What is it like?

Most people assume Iceland is full of Igloos and the only way to get around is via a sled pulled by Huskys. This is supported by the fact a lot of tourists I saw were wearing clothes like they were ready to climb Mount Everest. Actually Reykjavik (I still can’t spell it without Wikipedia) isn’t on average during winter colder than New York as it is on the coast (and something to do with the Gulf Stream) but the centre of the island can get pretty cold. I also was warned by a few friends that it can very expensive or so they had heard and even heard horror stories that a beer was going to cost about £30/$45. To be honest it seemed to be just slightly more expensive than the UK for some things but most things seemed to be a pretty similar price. Another good thing is that everybody seems to speak English.

What can you do?

Theres a bunch of tourist websites where you can find the top attractions but the what I bluelagoon 300x225 The country of internet spaceshipsenjoyed the most was the Blue Lagoon even if it is just a glorified swimming pool, it is very relaxing and you can rub white crap all over your face which exfoliates (does nothing) to your skin.

I went on The Golden Circle tour which is a route for seeing some of the main attractions of Iceland including: Þingvellir, the waterfall Gullfoss and the geysers Geysir and Strokkur. The tour in total was eight hours but the tour I went on managed to split it up quite nicely.

Theres a bunch of other stuff you can do including:

  • Whale watching
  • Quad bike rides
  • Snowmobile rides

Maybe people who are thinking about going to fanfest will find this post useful if not you can always educate people about Iceland: they don’t live in Igloos and the only way to get around is not via a sled pulled by Huskys but rather they use snowmobiles and live in log cabins.

It gets worse…

In my last post I talked about this killmail but it seems I need to correct myself. I thought he got suicide ganked as the Tempest and Hurricane are usually used in suicide ganking due to the high alpha (high damage in one shot) and as surely you wouldn’t undock with 22 billion worth of cargo while at war. It turns out he was actually at war. Just wow.

Eve news: Why is everybody so terrible at this game?

Why is everybody so terrible at this game is partly what this new blog will be about. You can make big isk out of suicide ganking, I myself managed to suicide gank an Incurus in high security space (hi-sec) with a T2 BPO worth 10 billion isk (and in dropped) but this recent kill tops mine:

Awesome killmail

I don’t understand why you would fly in a T1 frigate through hi-sec with over 20 billion in PLEXs. The total was 22.4 billion isk, 2220 days of game time or $1295 (£812). If I was moving that amount of isk it would have to be a tanked battleship or a freighter and even then I would be worried and would probably split the cargo. What’s even more stupid is he was moving PLEXs… just put them on the market, the prices don’t change that much throughout Eve as people can always buy them off contracts and activate them from anywhere. The gankers must be rather angry it didn’t drop, if it had I would be rather jealous.

What completes the whole thing is the crying on the killboard of the alliance who lost the isk:

Space monkey alliance killboard

I don’t understand how you can obtain that much isk and still be so terrible…

Have you ever been suicide ganked? What do you do to prevent it? Have you ever made lots of isk off suicide ganking? Feel free to comment below.

Eve pvp: Supercarriers

Supercarriers or motherships as they were called (a much cooler name) are great ships but I still can’t justify buying one.

They have some great strengths:

  • They are hard to tackle: Only Heavy Interdictors (Hics) and Interdictors (Dictors) can tackle them via bubbles or a focused bubble (focused point). This means they are great for ganking carriers and other capitals (including jump freighters) on POSes as they can’t be tackled by the POS.
  • They look great, even the Hel.evehel Eve pvp: Supercarriers
  • They do high dps: Even one can kill a carrier or dread in a reasonable amount of time. When you get near the ten mark you’re getting closer to instapopage.

But there are some problems:

  • They are expensive: Even when you know people, a Nyx hull will cost you about 11 billion then you need fittings of about 5 or 6 billion and then you need a slave set, T2 trimarks and drones including fighter bombers. Not cheap. Unless you’re Chribba of course.
  • You have to feed them: They gobble up loads of Isotopes (jump fuel).
  • They are slow and can still be tackled: Logonski Hics and Dictors make tackling an SC not too difficult.
  • Theres a lot of them: Theres lots of supercarriers in eve which means you can also get hotdropped by quite a few. Killmails like this are becoming more common place.
  • You lose a character: You can’t dock supercarriers so your character is stuck in it until it dies or until you sell it.

One thing that suprises me about most of the Supercarriers lost though is they are so terribly fit:

Recent example

You don’t active tank Supercarriers. You fit them for EHP.

How I would fit a Nyx:

[Nyx]
Core X-Type Armor EM Hardener
Core X-Type Armor Explosive Hardener
Core X-Type Armor Kinetic Hardener
Core X-Type Armor Thermic Hardener
Damage Control II
Centum A-Type Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane x2

Shadow Serpentis Sensor Booster, Scan Resolution
Domination Warp Disruptor
Cap Recharger II x3

Thon’s Modified Cloaking Device
Remote ECM Burst I
Ammatar Navy Large EMP Smartbomb
True Sansha Heavy Energy Neutralizer
Capital Remote Armor Repair System I x2 or one and one shield transporter.

Large Trimark Armor Pump II x3

Not that expensive of a fit. You could downgrade the cloak to faction, X-Type hardeners to A-Types and even the EANMs to faction if you wanted. The fit would still be better than 75% of lost supercarrier fits.
